three
or, "free!" as he will proudly tell you.
i guess he no longer qualifies as my baby. sniff. but i'm ok. seeing this little guy grow and evolve into a joyful, inquisitive, thoughtful, real person makes my heart sing.
we had much to celebrate this year.
we started with balloons, and i really could have stopped there. he was absolutely thrilled. "you buy these for me?" he said over, and over. oh, if i could only be so content with such small things!
funny thing was, he didn't want to just play with them. he wanted to let them go! i kept telling him they would go up to the sky and be all gone, but he was certain that was what he wanted to do (though he did say that the airplanes would just go get them).
and so he did. and loved it. oh, if i could have such a loose grip on material things....
we had all of bryan's family over (since it was wedding weekend for mine) as well as his buddies.
friends, hot-dogs, cake, homemade ice-cream, and fabulous weather. my kind of party. it seemed to be his too.
my favorite thing about his day this year was his genuine, overwhelming thankfulness. when grandmama walked in with presents he gasped and said, "you buy these for me?". when she said yes he sat in her lap and asked, "you go to target and buy these for me?". when he saw his cake...."you make this for me"? he gasped as each present was opened. i pray that he will always have a grateful heart.
the next day we told him we could go out to lunch wherever he wanted. of course we knew what his answer would be. chick-i-a !
three so far is proving to be a joy. my thirty-something self is learning so much from this three year old! not all is fun, for sure. we definitely have a case of the "mine's", the "no's", and the tantrums around here. but i'm finding that it's shaping us all ~ mom and dad included. and that's a good thing. (though surely there will be future post pleading for help on how to not curl up in a corner and hide until dad gets home!)

So glad to see the three party!! Can't wait to have our three party. He is just the most wonderful child. No he is not a baby anymore.
What a happy day! He has added such joy to our family. The picture of him letting the balloon go looks so much like Bryan when he was little. Little Bryan, Jr.
